On April 24, 2004 Richard Raschdorf's nephew, Alec William Nelson, was killed in a tragic accident. He was 16 months old.

Alec's family would like to create a loving memorial to capture the joyful spirit that Alec shared with everyone he experienced during his short life. In order to preserve his memory, the Raschdorf family is collecting donations in order to build the Alec William Nelson Memorial Playground at the Helping Hands Rescue Mission. Disadvantaged families have been benefiting from the work of Helping Hands, a local, non-profit organization since 1965. They provide food for the hungry, outreach programs, clothing, and spiritual and educational programs.

Many of you have met or know Rich personally and are familiar with his tireless dedication toward advancing the sport of adventure racing and for bringing quality NYARA events to you including the Saddle and Paddle, The Longest Day and The Gap. Rich would like to appeal to the Adventure Racing community to donate towards the construction of the playground bearing his nephew's name. Any amount donated will go directly towards the building the playground that will be used by disadvantaged children in Huntington, New York providing them with a safe place to play.

Corporate contributions are strongly encouraged and this is also a perfect opportunity to take advantage of your employer's matching gifts program.
