NYARA Awards $3000 Towards NYC Racers

New York Adventure Racing Association Awards $3000 in grants to local teams!

The New York Adventure Racing Association (NYARA), one of the fastest growing AR clubs in the world, is excited to award over $3000 in grants to teams that will compete in the New York City Wild Onion Urban Adventure Race.

"I think it's a great way to foster this awesome sport in our city, it was just a matter of linking the interested sponsors with the NYARA racers, we can't take all the credit" says NYARA founder Chris Ballou. NYARA has been fielding calls of interest by racers, sponsors and media to get the low down on the bad boys of Chicago.

Onion Anyone?

The Wild Onion NYC Urban Adventure Race is 24 hours long, and will cover approximately 100 - 120 miles of air, land and water terrain and will include 300 athletes organized into co-ed teams of three. Each leg of the race will integrate a certain unique aspect of the city. Racers will become intimately familiar with NYC's urban landscape and historic landmarks.

Criteria for sponsorship

1. A minimum of 6 teams will be awarded $500 each toward a Wild Onion NYC registration
2. Payment will be made directly to Urban Adventure Racing LLC once the registration process has been completed
3. A minimum of 1 team member must provide 5 hrs community services to NYARA on the weekend of April 19-20 to perform trail clean-up duties, that's about $100 an hour!
4. All members of the team must have a paid NYARA membership prior to submitting their application

Application Submission

1. Team captains applying for sponsorship must complete the Wild Onion NYC application at: http://www.urbanadventureracing.com [pdf].
2. Don't forget to enter your proposed team name that incorporates "NYARA"
3. Mail a brief (under 200 word) summary of why your team should receive the grant money to

4. Submissions MUST be received no later than midnight 3/31/03
5. Approved applicants will be notified within 5 business days and must submit $940 to Urban Adventure Racing LLC no later than midnight 4/30/03
