Routes, Maps & UTM Plotting
New York City, NY
26 January 2002
First will be the basics about maps and how to read them. We'll cover symbols, legends, contour lines, scales and UTM coordinates. We will touch only briefly on compasses.
The bulk of the clinic will be devoted to introducing an actual race map and passport book (the ones used for Odyssey Adventure Racing's E-Fix 2-day race in West Virginia). The goal for this part of the instruction is to enable racers who are doing their first 1+ day race to have a clue as to what to do when they finish their gear check-in at a race and are now given their maps and passport.
