2 Day Fixed Ropes Clinic

New Paltz, NY
13-14 July 2002


A 16hr course on fixed ropes i.e. (rappelling and ascending). The clinic is aimed to introduce rope skills to beginners and let intermediate racers improve their skills. Both will be certified and receive a certificate of competency after successfully completing the entire course.

Directions

Directions to campground:

From New York thruway, exit New Paltz, make a left at light. This is RT 299, at the forth-light make a right. This is RT 32. You will continue for 5.7 miles and pass two metal bridges. After crossing the second bridge you will make a right on to Creeklocks Rd. The campgrounds are on the left about a half-mile up the road.

On the weekends or holidays you can take a shortcut and miss the traffic in New Paltz. When you make a left on Rt.299 go over the thruway and make a right at the first light. This is Putt Corner Rd. Follow this for about three quarters of a mile and make a left on Shivertown Rd. Take this to the end and make a right, on to Rt.32. Then follow the directions above.

Class Limit

To preserve the integrity of instruction the course is limited to 12 students.

Price

$180 per person
Price includes issuance of a certificate of competency for fixed rope which is valid for 2 years. After expiration, the student may take a 4-hour refresher course for another valid 2-year certificate.

Camping

$10 per night
Please bring a sleeping bag, if you do not have a tent please let us know. Please bring food and beverages for breakfast and lunch for sat and sun and we will probably hit town for dinner.

  • 1 -correct fitting approved climbing harness
  • 1- Large locking carabineer
  • 3- locking carabineers
  • 4-daisy chains or 2-daisy chains and 20' tubular webbing
  • 2- Jumars (Petzl Ascenders, etc)
  • 1-ATC rappel device (NO OTHER Device is acceptable)
  • 2- adjustable Petzl foot cords, Petzl foot tapes or approved similar
    (Ex. FOOTAPE - Adjustable tape foot loops. (Moderate weight)
    ETRIER - Etrier (Stirrup - very heavy, but effective and versatile)
    FOOTCORD - Adjustable cord foot loops (lightest)

  • 1-Climbing Helmet (no bike helmets, multi sports ok)
  • 1-Headlamp with 8 hours of batteries
  • 1-Prussik loop or at least 6 feet of 5mm accessory cord
  • Small first aid kit
  • Water
  • Whistle
  • Race Pack with at least 30 lbs of gear inside
