NYARA is bringing 24-hour racing back to the northeast with The Shag! This year's race is a USARA National Qualifier and the top 3 co-ed teams will be eligible to compete in the USARA National Race in California in November. Racers will be treated to the gorgeous views and challenging terrain of Lake Hopatcong and Allamuchy State Parks while working their way to the finish line.

A Authorized Equipment |
Any equipment modifications or changes will be provided as soon as practicable or at the event to ensure that all teams are prepared on race day.
- All competitors will supply their own food and drink for the entire racing event.
- The equipment provided by the race organization:
- Water craft and paddles will be made available to competitors at the appropriate sections of the race

B Mandatory Equipment |
- Teams and racers shall supply all equipment necessary to cover the racecourse for varying types of terrain, weather and water conditions.
- There may be spot checks for mandatory equipment along the course.

C Personal Mandatory Equipment |
Each team member must supply the following and must carry these items at all times during competition
- 1- Whistle attached to equipment accessible while wearing a PFD
- 1- Compass
- 1- Knife
- Food & Water (AR is 100% self-sufficient)
- Working headlamp with batteries

D Mandatory Team Equipment |
Each team must possess and carry permanently throughout the competition the following.
- 1- Team First Aid Kit (See First Aid Kit below for detailed list of mandatory supplies)
- Cell Phone (Not needed on Paddle leg)
- Bailer (Needed on Paddle leg Only. Suggestion: Cut the bottom off a one gallon plastic jug)
- 1- Bike pump or inflation kits, kit (can be split and carried by separate individuals)
- 1- Bike Odometer/Speedometer (minimum one per team)

E Minimum Mandatory Individual Mountain Biking Equipment: Addition to full-time equipment |
- A mountain bike
- An approved mountain biking helmet with chin strap
- A bike light with appropriate batteries
- Red tail light mounted on the bike with appropriate batteries

- 1- Tube Antibiotic Ointment
- 1- Ace Bandage
- 3 doses Anti-Inflammatory (Ibuprofen, etc)

- 1- Survival mirror, at least 2" X 3"
- 1- Lighter or waterproof matches
- Means of replacing electrolytes (pills or powder)
- 1- Mini repair/wrench kits, suitable to tighten all major bike components (ex. Topeak Alien)
- Complete tire repair kit
- 1- Dry bag, waterproof and suitable to keep clothing and mandatory equipment dry during the entire race*
- 1- Sponge per team (for self bailing)
- Minimum of 50-water purification tablets or means to filter water
*(Teams must be prepared for conditions of water crossing both in and out of water craft)
